Violet C. Oliver

On Saturday, January 20, 2024, Violet C. Oliver peacefully passed away at 98.

Violet was born on March 7, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y, to her loving parents, Millicent Gaskin Sealy and Herman Sealy, who immigrated from Barbados, West Indies. Her parents immersed her in the Christian community from a young age, and she continued her Christian faith until death.

She received her early education at The Boys and Girls High School and then moved on to Brooklyn College.

Violet married her sweetheart, the late Douglas Oliver, who captivated her eyes at a movie theatre. The marriage blossomed for 70 years until his death on November 14, 2023. They raised one son, Dr. Keith Oliver.

Violet had a passion for arts and crafts. She also loved cultural affairs and combined her two favorite hobbies to create extraordinary art. Her painting selections and crafts were much admired. She was known for her quick wit, infectious smile, and kind and compassionate spirit.

Violet pursued a career as an educator with devotion and zeal. She was committed to her job, which was evident in her going the extra mile to see students succeed. Before education, she served for several years as a social worker.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Glenda Douglas, brothers Beresford Sealy and Grafton Gaskin, and nephew Carl Douglas. Violet is survived by her son, Dr. Keith Oliver, nephew Tyrone Gaskin, niece Sharman Johnson, nephews, nieces, grandnieces, cousins, and friends.

We look forward to the heavenly reunion with her when Christ comes.
