Sidney S. Beckles was born on April 16th, 1961, in a Queens, New York hospital on a beautiful Spring Day. Sidney was the youngest child of 4 children, though the baby of the family, Sidney’s nurturing spirit is what endeared her to many, even at a young age. Sidney remained a Queens native starting her early years off attending grade school at P.S. 40, then Intermediate School 08 and completed her education at Flushing High School. Sidney’s spirited and fun-loving demeanor had friends and family referring to her lovingly as “Aunty Cindy”. True to form, Cindy’s life revolved around extending service through kindness. Cindy started her professional work life providing nourishment to children, working for the Department of Education as a Food Service Assistant. From this Cindy went on to become a Certified Home Health Aide. Cindy took her experience as a Home Health Aide and used it to provide care for her ailing sibling. This is who Cindy was, a caregiver, who extended a kind hand to those in need.
Through time Cindy met and married a man she often described as her “true love” Mr. Franklin Collins. This encounter changed not only her name but her life. Sidney S. Beckles officially and proudly became Sidney Collins. While settling into married life, Cindy became an active member of the Christ Pentecostal Temple Church. Friends and family played a big role in Cindy’s life. She loved to listen to and dance to the classics, while enjoying good food and great company. She found solace in the hobby of crocheting and gifted some of her creative work to friends and family.
