Be the first to offer your condolences on Orrie C's Tribute Wall
Our beloved Orrie C. Hernandez Fleming was born on October 4, 1947 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was the third daughter of Syria and Claudia Fleming, from this union Orrie had six siblings, Alvina Bethel, Zenola Marks and Shirley Fleming all whom preceded her in death, Reverend Marietta Alcide, Lloyd Fleming and Dominique Riddick. She met and married Jose Hernandez (who also preceded her in death) where they shared a union of over 25 years.
The Fleming family relocated to Brooklyn, New York in the late 40’s where Orrie attended P.S. 260, JHS George Gershwin and Prospect High School. Her childhood in Brooklyn instilled a lifelong passion for baking cakes and fresh bread, gardening, sewing, crocheting hats, sweater and baby blankets. Orrie also loved to sing and exhibited her talents in glees clubs and acapella choirs. She had a huge record collection of music she loved and shared with her nieces and nephews and was perhaps the first to produce a gospel mixtape. She also loved to travel and enjoyed hitting the highway for long road trips. Orrie had a career with the federal government where she worked for the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services and retired after twenty-five years of service. Orrie loved life, loved to laugh, and loved family gatherings for celebrations. Orrie also loved and was faithful to the Lord, her last church home was Elim International Fellowship Church where she was ordained a deaconess.
Orrie leaves to cherish her memory her devoted son Cedric Fleming, daughter Marleny Hernandez-Bailey (Shawn), four grandchildren Sarah, Catherine, Isaac and Malia, two sisters Reverend Marietta Alcide, Dominique Riddick (Steven), one brother Lloyd Fleming (Marsha), brother-in-law Captain Walter Bethel and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. The sunset on our beloved Orrie on September 9th, 2023 at the age of 75. You will forever be in our thoughts, We love you.
