Ella Mae Yeadon Harry

Ella Mae Yeadon Harry was born on November 22, 1922 in Pinapolis, South Carolina. She was the 3rd child born to the union of the late Reverend Theodore Yeadon Sr., and Laura Anderson Yeadon. Ella, along with her siblings, grew up in a loving, Christian, supportive environment.

At an early age Ella showed a quest for knowledge and learning and was sent to Charleston, South Carolina to attend school. After her primary education, Ella pursued higher educational studies at Stillman College and Tuskegee University in Alabama, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in Nursing in 1947. With a continued thirst for knowledge and advancement educationally, Ella went on to attend St. John’s University and Long Island University where she received her Masters degree in 1972.

Ella’s career spanned in various capacities throughout the years, and concluded at Downstate Medical Center (SUNY) where she was the Associate Director of Nursing for many years until her retirement in 1996.

Ella was a staunch advocate for education and would support family members in their pursuit of higher education. She was smart, witty and no nonsense.

Ella was the devoted wife of Mr. Eric Ucal Harry until his passing in 2014. While they had no children, Ella cared deeply for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and treated them as her own.

Ella was a devoted member and Elder of the Siloam Presbyterian Church from 1953 until her passing. Ella stayed busy. With a love for traveling within the states and abroad and involved in other civic organizations including the Business and Professional Club in Brooklyn, New York.

Ella demonstrated a spirit of kindness and unselfishness, offering sound guidance, love and always supporting those in need. Ella meant a lot to her family and friends and she enjoyed being with everyone at gatherings and especially family reunions.

Ella is survived by her loving family and friends.
