Devora Thomas, was born in Washington, DC on November 26, 1942, to the late Vernell Harris and Eppie Edmonds. After the death of her mother, she relocated to Halifax, VA, and was raised by her grandparents, the late Andrew and Virginia Edmonds. Devora and her sister, Geraldine, relocated to Brooklyn, NY, to live with their father and stepmother, Eppie and Bernice Edmonds. Devora was educated in the New York City Public School System where she graduated from Central Commercial High School, which is now known as Norman Thomas High School.
At the age of eighteen, Devora met and married Arthur Kent Thomas and from that union they were blessed with two children, Tawanda and Aaron.
In 1977, Devora and her sister, Geraldine, moved to St. Albans, NY. She worked for and retired from the NYC Department of Education. Devora joined Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in 1982, under the leadership of the late Bishop Charles E. Betts, Sr. where she built a strong and amazing relationship with Jesus Christ. She was an active member of the Missionary Ministry and Chancellor Choir. Devora loved to cook, travel, and spend quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her favorite food was Haagen-Dazs butter pecan ice cream.
Devora was preceded in death by father, grandparents, and best friend and companion, Matthew Ashley.
