Brenda Joyce Long was born on May 17, 1953 in Jamaica, New York to the late Thomas and Geneva Long. Brenda attended Public School 40, I.S. 8 and Jamaica High School. Brenda held various Retail Sales management positions throughout her career including companies Caldor, White Castle and Kmart. In 1974 she married James Everett. To this union were one boy and one girl. Although James and Brenda divorced later in life, they remained friends.
In 1991 Brenda met someone very dear to her, Darryl Wise. They shared a long and special union together until his passing.
Brenda Everett was loving mother of Ramona Henry, Gregory Long, James Everett Jr., Queentyleery Everett and Juron Bolden. She is preceded in death by her brother David Fitzgerald, mother, Geneva Long, Sisters Cynthia Long and Terry Long.
Brenda was known as “Big Bren”. She did it her way or no way at all. Brenda was kind, reliable, stubborn, supportive, resourceful, resilient and mostly F-U-N. She was the life of the party and consistently upbeat. Big Bren lived for her children and helped many in any way that she could. She was looked upon as a neighborhood mom and loved by so many. Brenda always put family first and understood what it meant to sacrifice. She had a good life full of love, friendships and good times, just ask cousins Mildred and Viola and dear friend Brenda Archer, I am told they have some of the best memories.
Brenda and Mildred were like sisters. They had a special bond and were cut-up buddies. They may have invented the game of BINGO because that’s how much they loved to play. They partied together, cried together, took trips and visited many casinos together. They worked hard and played harder. There’s nothing like having that special sister-friend who knows you better than you know yourself.
Brenda is presently and will continue to be dearly missed. Yet, God knows best, and we will all see her again with a glorified body on the other side. Until then, may she rest in eternal peace and visit us on occasion in our dreams and otherwise.
On January 31, 2021, the Lord called our beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend home.
